The Club

Harrow Shotokan Karate (HSK) was founded in 2011 by Shyam Raithatha.

Unlike many karate clubs and karate organisations in the UK, HSK has direct links to the home of karate, Japan.

We belong to the Japan Karate Shoto Federation (JKS) with it's world headquaters in Tokyo, Japan via The Japan Karate Shoto Federation - England (JKS England).

We teach karate as it is taught in Japan. We have regular trips to Japan to train and also have regular visits from Japanese instructors from the JKS World Headquarters.

Harrow Shotokan Karate is also affiliated to the English Karate Federation (EKF) and the the World Karate Federation (WKF) which is the only world karate body to be recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC)

Instructors

The instructors of HSK have a wealth of experience and knowledge and have over 80 years of karate experience between them. They have trained and graded with some of the most senior karate masters in the world from Japan and Europe.

Between them, they have won numerous titles at both domestic and international level.

Senior Instructor, Shyam Raithatha is the founder of HSK and a 6th Degree Black Belt. He began studying Karate in 1992 and was a member of the England National team winning many national and international medals. He travels to Japan regularly to train at the JKS World Headquaters in Tokyo and in November 2022 achieved his 6th Dan Black Belt after under going an examination in Tokyo under a panel of senior Japanese masters.
